Frequently Asked Questions

Please reach me at m.jelinekcounselling@gmail.com if you cannot find an answer to your question.

Each session will be slightly different, but the process will be similar.  I’ll ask questions to understand where you’re at, how you got here, and where you want to go. Then we’ll talk about how to get there. I might ask you to do some exercises in real time, offer some homework, or give emotional support. Different things work for different people. I don’t do anything without your permission.

Maybe. I have experience working with diverse clients on different stressors and concerns - but I specialized in adult-child parent relationships because of how often that's where I end up with clients. Let's do a consult and if I'm not the right fit for you I can send you names of some trusted colleagues.

I don't work directly with anyone under the age of 19. If you're looking for family therapy for yourself and a child or youth, shoot me an e-mail or book a consult and I can refer you to some skilled folks. I happily work with parents (as couples, co-parents, or individuals) of children and teens!

BCYC - I have a bachelor's degree in Child and Youth Care. This degree focused on relationships, counselling skills, and supporting children, youth and families.

MC - I have a master's degree in counselling. This degree focused focused on human psychology, counselling theories, counselling skills, and ethics.

RCC - I am a registered clinical counsellor. This means I have met all the educational and practice requirements set out by the British Columbia Association of Clinical Counsellors (BCACC). I am responsible to their code of ethics and standards of practice.

Individual 50-minute session: $150

Relationship 50-minute session: $160

Fess are in alignment with the British Columbia Association for Clinical Counsellors (BCACC) 2024 fee guide (https://bcacc.ca/bcacc-fee-guide-2024/). I also offer discounted sessions for non-profit workers in helping professions, and child and youth care, social work, and counselling students. Book a consult or contact me directly to discuss discounted sessions.

The BC medical services plan (MSP) does not cover counselling. Many employer paid benefits plans offer some coverage for services rendered by an RCC. Each plan has their own criteria for who is covered, how much they will cover annually, and what percentage of each session they will cover.  Please check your individual plan.
